A nursing opportunity is available for an experienced RN with Med Surg and/or Oncology skills to provide care on a busy 52-bed MedSurg unit specializing in orthopedic and surgical patients. This contract position offers the chance to work every other weekend and holidays on a 12-hour night shift schedule (7 PM – 7 AM) within a dedicated team delivering high-quality patient care.

This position is based in Weirton, WV, a community known for its scenic river views and a thriving healthcare sector. Weirton offers a welcoming small-town atmosphere with easy access to outdoor activities and proximity to larger metropolitan amenities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to post-operative orthopedic, neuro, and general surgery patients, as well as those with medical diagnoses such as COPD, pneumonia, and infections.
- Manage patient assessments, medication administration including drips and PCA opioids, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy staff.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Clinical Assistants and CNA teams.
- Participate in weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
- Adhere to infection control protocols, including care for COVID-19 tested patients within the unit.
- Utilize EMR systems (Sunrise) for documentation and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.
Qualifications / Desired Experience:
- Active RN license.
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
- Experience in MedSurg nursing with preferred skills in oncology and peritoneal dialysis.
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and cover assigned weekend and holiday rotations.
- Familiarity with hospital protocols related to patient monitoring and electronic medical records.
Additional Details:
- Patient-to-nurse ratios typically range from 6-7 to 1.
- IV insertion is handled by a dedicated IV team; RN’s assess IV sites.
- Scrub color code: Navy uniforms for RNs, gray for CNAs.
- Charge Nurse has a full patient assignment and is supported by a Clinical Assistant working both on the floor and in administrative tasks.
- Floating to other MedSurg or oncology units possible; no cardiac drips required.
