Medical-Surgical Nurse (RN) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina

Take on a valuable role providing expert care to patients on a dynamic MedSurg/Telemetry unit within a leading academic medical center. As an RN on this 10-bed unit, you’ll care for a variety of medical-surgical, cardiac, and post-surgical patients (including pre-CT surgery), with an average daily census of 8. This contract position offers the chance to work with advanced technology in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Schedule/Hours:

• Full-time contract
• Must be comfortable with standard rotating shifts as required by unit need

Qualifications:

• Active RN license
• Minimum 1 year of recent MedSurg/Telemetry experience
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation, PCA pumps, wound care, various surgical drains, and TR Bands
• Ability to manage drips including Cardizem, Nitro, and Amio
• Travel nurse experience preferred, but first-time travelers considered
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care for a 1:5 RN-to-patient ratio
• Assess, monitor, and interpret bedside telemetry cardiac strips
• Manage wound care, perform assessments, and administer medications
• Initiate and manage IV therapy; peripheral blood draws as needed
• Collaborate with CNA, charge nurse, receptionist/HU, and interdisciplinary teams (24/7 RT, hospitalist, intensivist support)
• Support patients with a range of diagnoses: DM (no insulin gtts), respiratory, GI, neuro and trauma conditions
• Operate EMR (Epic), Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell, and unit-specific equipment safely
