School Registered Nurse (RN) in Newport News, VA

A rewarding contract opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to support a school setting, delivering skilled nursing care and health guidance to students. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for students with diverse health needs, including those requiring tracheostomy care.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Current and unrestricted RN license
• Practical tracheostomy care experience required
• CPR/BLS certification
• Previous nursing experience in a school or pediatric setting strongly preferred
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized student care plans
• Compassion, flexibility, and a commitment to advocacy for student health and well-being

Schedule/Hours:

• Monday through Friday, school-day hours with occasional after-school needs as determined by student health plans

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care, including tracheostomy support and routine health management for students
• Develop and implement care plans in coordination with parents, educators, and medical professionals
• Administer medications and monitor for side effects or complications
• Respond promptly to health emergencies and provide first aid as necessary
• Educate students and staff on wellness, hygiene, and safety protocols
• Maintain health records in compliance with privacy laws and school policies
• Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute clinical insight for student support teams
