School Registered Nurse | Newport News, Virginia

Exciting opportunity available for a skilled Registered Nurse to provide essential care within a school setting. This contract position is ideal for an experienced RN who is passionate about supporting students’ health and educational success, especially those with complex medical needs. The role focuses on delivering high-quality nursing support during school hours in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid and unrestricted RN licensure
• Demonstrated experience with tracheostomy (trach) care and management
• Previous experience in school nursing or pediatric care strongly preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and families

Schedule/Hours:

• Hours align with typical school day schedules, Monday through Friday

Primary Duties:

• Deliver direct care, medication administration, and medical interventions for students—particularly those requiring tracheostomy support
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans in collaboration with educators and families
• Assess students’ health status and respond promptly to emergencies
• Serve as a resource and advocate for students' health, wellness, and chronic condition management
• Maintain accurate health records and ensure compliance with school policies and state regulations
• Educate staff and students in basic health practices and emergency protocols
