School-Based Registered Nurse (RN) - Newport News, Virginia

Play a vital role in supporting students’ health and wellness within a school environment. This position seeks a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to provide care and support to students, staff, and families over a defined contract period. Experience with tracheostomy care is essential for success in this role.

Schedule/Hours:

• School hours, weekdays only

Qualifications:

• Valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Previous nursing experience in a school setting strongly preferred
• Demonstrated expertise with tracheostomy care and emergency interventions
• Current BLS or CPR certification
• Excellent assessment, documentation, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the school’s multidisciplinary team
• Compassionate, professional attitude, and commitment to student health and safety

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct nursing care to students, including tracheostomy care and other medically complex needs
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized health care plans in cooperation with school staff and families
• Respond to medical emergencies quickly and effectively
• Promote health education and advocate for students’ health needs within the school setting
• Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Serve as a resource for staff on health-related topics and provide training as needed
