Deliver specialized nursing care on a progressive care/stepdown unit focused on cardiac, surgical, and respiratory patients. This travel RN role requires strong clinical judgment and assessment skills in a dynamic environment caring for adults with complex multi-system needs. Provide primary patient assessments, IV push medications, and manage post-op drains and wound vacs within a 26-bed unit averaging nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6. Participating in coordinated care with interdisciplinary teams, you will advocate for patient safety, family communication, and quality improvement.
Key Qualifications:
- Current RN license in a compact state or the state of practice
- Minimum 1 year RN experience; 6 months acute care hospital preferred
- Dysrhythmia Exam required (study guide provided)
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke certification required
- Experience with cardiac telemetry, amiodarone drips, heparin, and Cardizem titration
- Knowledge of critical care nursing principles and the AACN Synergy Model
- EPIC EHR experience preferred
- Strong communication skills; ability to prioritize and adapt in high-stress environments
Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments; implement and evaluate evidence-based care plans
- Administer medications safely and provide IV push meds per scope of practice
- Coordinate patient care across hospital departments and serve as patient advocate
- Manage complex patients with multisystem organ failure or trauma
- Function as charge nurse as assigned
- Educate and mentor nursing staff and participate in continuous quality improvement
