An opportunity is available for a registered nurse specializing in cardiac stepdown care on a night shift schedule. This contract position offers 36 guaranteed weekly hours with some weekend availability as needed.
Location Overview
Situated in the Charleston, MO area, the role provides care to patients within a 14-bed stepdown unit specializing in cardiac, lung, and vascular progressive care. This includes patients transitioning from surgery and ICU, as well as those with conditions such as sepsis, pneumonia, and oncology-related diagnoses.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care by assessing patient condition, developing nursing diagnoses, and implementing care plans.
- Provide physical, emotional, and educational support to patients and families.
- Monitor and document symptoms, intervene in emergencies, and effectively communicate changes to the healthcare team.
- Administer medications, perform wound care, IV therapies including central line maintenance, and prepare patients for diagnostic exams.
- Promote patient safety via adherence to infection control, medication regulations, and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality patient-centered care and meet regulatory standards.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to assistive personnel appropriately.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Current RN licensure with 1+ year experience in stepdown or progressive care.
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records system is required.
- Previous exposure to cardiac care, managing lines, chest tubes, and vasoactive drips is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Job Details
- Contract duration: 13–26 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Patient ratio approx. 1:3-4
- Required flu vaccination during specified months, with exceptions subject to approval.
- Dress code includes black scrubs.
