Position Overview
A growing pharmacy organization is seeking a highly experienced pharmacist and pharmacy operator to serve as a Part-Time Pharmacy Strategy Advisor. This engagement is designed for a senior pharmacy leader who has personally built, managed, or expanded specialty pharmacy and mail-order or central-fill operations across multiple states.
This is a strategic advisory opportunity, not a day-to-day operations or implementation role. The ideal advisor will provide experienced guidance, identify potential roadblocks, evaluate growth opportunities, and help leadership determine what strategies are viable, what may not work, and why.
Must-Have Qualifications
Pharmacist Background
Active pharmacist license.
PharmD or BS in Pharmacy.
15+ years of pharmacy experience.
Significant pharmacy leadership and management experience.
Specialty Pharmacy & Multi-State Operations
Candidates must have direct operating experience with:
Specialty pharmacy operations.
Mail-order pharmacy and/or central-fill operations.
Multi-state pharmacy licensing and operations.
Pharmacy expansion, market development, or growth strategy.
Retail-only pharmacy experience is not a fit for this engagement.
URAC Accreditation Experience
Strong preference for candidates who have personally led an initial URAC accreditation or renewal, particularly in:
URAC Specialty Pharmacy.
URAC Mail Service.
The advisor should understand operational and documentation requirements, accreditation readiness, realistic timelines, and overall accreditation strategy.
340B Contract Pharmacy Experience
Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
340B contract pharmacy operations.
Covered entity relationships.
Contract pharmacy strategy.
Split billing and compliance considerations.
Experience on the pharmacy side, covered entity side, or both is acceptable.
Payer & PBM Contracting
Experience with:
Payer and PBM contracting.
Specialty pharmacy network applications and access.
Contract and reimbursement negotiations.
DIR and reimbursement considerations.
Direct contracting versus PSAO relationships.
Network appeals.
Medicaid enrollment across multiple states.
Additional relevant experience includes DMEPOS/Medicare Part B, limited distribution drug network applications, and evaluating pharmacy build-versus-acquisition strategies.
Strategic Advisory Responsibilities
The advisor will provide leadership with guidance on:
Specialty pharmacy and mail-order business expansion.
Multi-state pharmacy licensing and market development.
URAC accreditation planning and readiness.
340B contract pharmacy strategy and compliance considerations.
Payer and PBM contracting opportunities.
Specialty pharmacy network access and reimbursement.
Build-versus-acquire pharmacy growth decisions.
Identifying operational, regulatory, and strategic roadblocks.
Developing practical, sustainable pharmacy growth strategies.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior pharmacy executive, experienced pharmacy operator, or consultant who can draw on firsthand experience building and scaling pharmacy businesses. Candidates should be comfortable advising leadership, challenging assumptions when appropriate, and explaining the rationale behind strategic recommendations.
