A clinical pharmacist opportunity is available in a scenic mountain town approximately 75 miles from Los Angeles, offering a unique hospital setting where you will serve as the sole pharmacist during this assignment. This per diem role spans approximately two weeks, supporting the primary pharmacist during a planned vacation period starting after April 19th. The hospital is a community-focused facility with an 18-bed medical-surgical unit and a 10-bed emergency department, utilizing CPSI/Evident software and Pyxis systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify and review medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety.
- Compound sterile medications, including IV admixtures and unit dose preparations (excluding chemotherapy and hazardous drugs).
- Respond to emergency room codes as needed.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state and federal regulations, and sterile compounding standards.
- Monitor patient medication therapies and provide clinical recommendations.
- May assist with filling Pyxis machines at two local family health centers.
Qualifications:
- Active and clear California Pharmacist License.
- Minimum of 2 years inpatient pharmacy experience.
- Experience in sterile compounding.
- Ability to cover on-call hours, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
- Familiarity with CPSI/Evident and Pyxis software preferred; training available if needed.
- Experience working independently as the sole pharmacist in a clinical setting is a plus.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- On-call coverage on weekends and after hours (calls are infrequent).
Support and Environment:
- One pharmacy technician will be available full-time during the assignment to assist with inventory and data entry.
