A clinical inpatient pharmacist role is available for a 13-week contract starting June 1 at a medical center in Alturas, CA. This position requires recent inpatient pharmacy experience within the last 3 years and offers a varied shift schedule including days, with options of 5 eight-hour shifts or 4 ten-hour shifts, including some weekends. The electronic medical record system utilized is Cerner.
This role involves oversight of inpatient pharmaceutical services under the direction of the Pharmaceutical Services Director. Responsibilities include managing drug procurement, distribution, storage, and administration while ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. You will serve as the pharmacist in charge, maintaining pharmacy policies and procedures, supervising drug distribution systems, and recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the pharmacy license framework.
Key responsibilities also include reviewing all inpatient medication orders to ensure safe and effective use, verifying patients’ home medications, maintaining pharmacy inventory including specialty boxes and crash carts, and ensuring the security and proper disposal of controlled and hazardous substances. Administrative duties such as record keeping, licensing compliance, and cost-saving purchasing practices are essential components of the role. Weekend retail pharmacy coverage and on-call responsibilities during shifts are also required.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Active pharmacist licensure with current inpatient hospital pharmacy experience (within 3 years)
- Proficiency in Cerner EMR system
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of pharmacy regulatory compliance at state and federal levels
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct
- Experience managing pharmaceutical inventory and controlled substances
