About This Role
This is a high-visibility clinical leadership position serving as the subject matter expert for both inpatient and outpatient oncology programs across a regional health system on the Central California Coast. The right candidate will own the oncology pharmacy program across both settings — collaborating with physicians, nurses, and care teams to deliver the highest level of oncology pharmaceutical care to patients throughout the region.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive medication management, including ordering lab tests, selecting therapies, and managing adverse events for oncology patients
Verify chemotherapy orders and protocols for accuracy, appropriateness of dosage, and patient safety
Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans, manage chemotherapy side effects, and improve medication adherence
Collaborate with providers and nurses to make treatment decisions during clinical rounds in both inpatient and outpatient infusion settings
Participate in clinical trials, manage investigational drugs, and develop institutional oncology protocols and guidelines
Serve as the health system's subject matter expert and clinical resource for all oncology pharmacy-related questions and initiatives
Experience
PGY2 residency or fellowship in oncology required OR
PGY1 residency plus minimum 3 years of experience as a clinical specialist in oncology OR
Minimum 5 years of experience as a clinical specialist in oncology
Board Certification in Oncology — BCOP — preferred but not required
Clinical trial and investigational drug experience a strong plus
Skills
Deep clinical knowledge of oncology pharmacotherapy across both inpatient and outpatient settings
Strong chemotherapy verification and protocol management skills
Excellent patient education and communication skills
Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary oncology care teams
Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to medication safety and protocol compliance
