This opportunity offers a rewarding role as the sole clinical pharmacist covering a community hospital in a scenic mountain town approximately 75 miles from Los Angeles. The position is per diem, covering a 2-week period starting any time after April 19th, allowing the primary pharmacist to take a well-deserved vacation.
Located in a hospital with an 18-bed Med-Surg unit and a 10-bed Emergency Department, this role involves broad clinical responsibilities including inpatient medication order verification, sterile compounding (no chemotherapy or hazardous drugs), and potential response to emergency codes. You will ensure compliance with all regulatory standards while providing expert clinical recommendations to the medical team. Support is available from a pharmacy technician working full-time during the assignment for inventory and data entry tasks.
Key responsibilities:
- Verify and review medication orders for accuracy and safety
- Compound sterile medications such as IV admixtures and unit doses
- Monitor medication therapies and advise physicians and nurses
- Maintain compliance with hospital, state, and federal policies
- Fill Pyxis machines at two local family health centers as needed
- Be available for on-call duties on weekends and after hours (though calls are infrequent)
Required qualifications:
- Active and clear California Pharmacist License
- Minimum 2 years inpatient pharmacy experience
- Familiarity with CPSI/Evident and Pyxis software preferred (training available)
- Experience functioning as the sole clinical pharmacist preferred
- Willingness to fulfill on-call responsibilities
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (full-time hours during the contract)
- On-call coverage on weekends and after hours
