A hospital in a scenic town about 75 miles outside of Los Angeles seeks a clinical pharmacist for per diem coverage. The current pharmacist-in-charge is planning a two-week vacation after April 19th, and coverage is needed to maintain seamless inpatient pharmacy services.

This opportunity offers a chance to work independently as the sole pharmacist in a small, well-equipped inpatient setting. The 18-bed Med-Surge unit and 10-bed Emergency Department provide a variety of clinical challenges. You will manage medication verification, sterile compounding, and clinical consultations, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify and review medication orders for accuracy and safety.
  • Compound sterile medications, including IV admixtures and unit dose medications (excluding chemotherapy/hazardous drugs).
  • Respond to emergency codes as necessary.
  • Monitor medication therapy, providing clinical recommendations to physicians and nurses.
  • Maintain Pyxis machines at two affiliated family health centers.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and hospital policies.
  • Participate in on-call duty weekends and after hours as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Active and clear California Pharmacist License.
  • Minimum of two years' inpatient pharmacy experience.
  • Familiarity with CPSI/Evident and Pyxis software preferred; training available if needed.
  • Experience functioning as the sole pharmacist in a clinical setting is highly desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to fulfill on-call responsibilities.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with weekend and after-hours on-call coverage (calls are infrequent).

Additional Details:

  • One pharmacy technician (PRN) will be available full-time during the contract for inventory and data entry support.
  • Travel expenses including housing and mileage are pass-through costs billed directly to the client.
