A healthcare facility seeks a skilled Clinical Pharmacist to support its inpatient medication services within a 18-bed Medical-Surgical unit and a 10-bed Emergency Department. This per diem role requires clinical expertise and flexibility to work day shifts during the week with on-call responsibilities on weekends and after hours.

Responsibilities include verifying and reviewing medication orders for accuracy and safety, compounding sterile medications such as IV admixtures and unit dose preparations (excluding chemotherapy or hazardous drugs), and responding to emergency codes as needed. The pharmacist will ensure regulatory compliance with hospital policies, state and federal laws, and sterile compounding standards. Clinical monitoring of patients’ medication therapies with timely recommendations to physicians and nursing staff is essential. Additionally, occasional stocking of Pyxis machines at local family health centers may be required.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active and clear California Pharmacist License
  • Minimum of 2 years inpatient pharmacy experience
  • Compounding sterile medications experience
  • Ability and willingness to be on-call weekends and after hours
  • Familiarity with CPSI/Evident and Pyxis software preferred; training can be provided if needed
  • Experience functioning as the sole pharmacist in a clinical setting is an advantage

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (full-time hours during the contract)
  • On-call availability for weekends and after hours (calls are infrequent)

Per diem travel expenses will be reimbursed as pass-through costs. Support from a PRN technician who may increase hours to full-time is available to assist with inventory and data entry tasks.
