A clinical pharmacist position is available for a fast-paced, pediatric teaching hospital with 359 beds and Level 1 trauma designation. This opportunity offers a contract role on the night shift with a schedule of seven consecutive 12-hour shifts (7:00 pm to 7:00 am), followed by seven days off. The Director of Pharmacy is flexible with scheduling arrangements. This 13-week assignment has the potential to become permanent.
Candidates ideally hold an active Arkansas pharmacy license, though temporary licensing options and candidates in the process of licensure are encouraged to apply. A minimum of two years inpatient experience is preferred, along with intravenous (IV) therapy experience or IV certification. Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPS) are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compound and dispense prescribed medications according to physician orders with a focus on pediatric patients.
- Collaborate with medical staff to evaluate drug interactions, patient history, and medication use.
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding medication and dosages.
- Ensure accurate documentation and regulatory compliance of all pharmacy data.
- Verify appropriateness of doses based on diagnosis, weight, age, and body surface area.
- Identify and intervene in drug therapy issues such as allergies, interactions, and adverse reactions.
- Recommend cost-effective and efficacious medication alternatives.
- Manage non-formulary drug evaluations and medication preparation, labeling, and quality standards.
- Prioritize and process orders efficiently to ensure timely patient care.
- Provide professional support in patient care areas, optimizing therapeutic outcomes.
- Participate in educational activities for patients, technicians, pharmacists, and students.
- Conduct drug information services and assist with drug utilization reviews.
- Manage medication procurement, substitutions, recalls, and inventory processes.
