Oversee pharmacy operations as the Director of Pharmacy at a behavioral health facility specializing in inpatient care. This contract role involves stepping into a leadership position with a focus on ensuring efficient medication dispensing, staff management, and compliance with regulatory standards during a transition period. The assignment begins with training alongside the outgoing director starting February 25th and extends through May 29th, or until a permanent candidate is hired.
Location: High Point, North Carolina
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM plus on-call (typically light)
- Weekend coverage, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM, if not covered by part-time pharmacist staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee pharmacy staffing, including dispensing and verifying medication orders via the HCS system
- Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians with stocking automated systems (Omnicell) and daily operations
- Participate in pharmacy committees such as P&T and antimicrobial stewardship
- Develop and update policies as needed to maintain compliance and improve pharmacy services
- Manage pharmacy budget, controlling drug costs and staffing expenses
- Ensure timely medication delivery to patients, maintaining optimal workflow and coverage
- Provide leadership during the Joint Commission accreditation window
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- North Carolina pharmacist license required
- Experience in inpatient and pharmacy management roles
- Familiarity with behavioral health pharmacy practice preferred
- Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and behavioral health regulations highly desirable
- Experience with HCS order entry and Omnicell automation is a plus; training available if needed
Support Structure:
- Staff includes 2 part-time pharmacists (0.5 FTE), 1 full-time technician, and 3 part-time technicians
- Pharmacy technicians assist with dispensing, ordering, and repackaging but do not perform order entry
Orientation and Additional Details:
- A 4-5 day training and orientation period with the outgoing Director of Pharmacy is mandatory before assuming full responsibilities
- Candidates must be local or willing to discuss travel arrangements and expenses if relocating
