This leadership role oversees a behavioral health pharmacy within a healthcare facility, managing operations to ensure the timely delivery of medications and efficient staff utilization. The position begins with a comprehensive 4-5 day training alongside the outgoing Director of Pharmacy starting February 25th, continuing coverage until May 29th or until a permanent candidate is placed. This assignment offers a valuable opportunity for pharmacy professionals experienced in inpatient management and interested in behavioral health.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage pharmacy staff, including pharmacists and technicians, ensuring adequate coverage and workflow efficiency.
- Oversee medication dispensing, order verification using the Health Care Systems (HCS) order entry system, and Omnicell automation stocking processes.
- Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committees, antimicrobial stewardship programs, and update policies as necessary.
- Maintain cost controls related to drug utilization and staffing within assigned budget limits.
- Ensure patient medication needs are fulfilled promptly.
- Provide support and supervision to pharmacy technicians with dispensing, ordering, and repackaging processes, though technicians do not handle order entry.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active North Carolina pharmacist license.
- Proven experience in inpatient pharmacy management.
- Behavioral health pharmacy experience and knowledge of Joint Commission standards strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with HCS order entry system and Omnicell automation is beneficial but not required; training available.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Schedule & Coverage:
- Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, with generally light on-call responsibilities.
- Weekend hours required if part-time pharmacist coverage is unavailable, from 8:00 am – 2:30 pm.
