Oversee comprehensive pharmacy operations as a Director of Pharmacy at a behavioral health facility specializing in inpatient care. This contract position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team and influence pharmacy management practices within a Joint Commission-accredited environment.

Location: Lexington, North Carolina
Position Type: Contract, with expected start training February 25th alongside outgoing Director of Pharmacy, continuing through May 29th or until a permanent candidate is found.
Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, plus light on-call duties
  • Weekend coverage (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM) as needed if not covered by part-time pharmacists

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage the pharmacy staff, including 2 part-time pharmacists and combined full- and part-time technicians.
  • Oversee medication dispensing, verify technician work, and utilize the HCS (Health Care Systems) order entry system; training provided if new to HCS.
  • Assist with Omnicell automation stocking and management, recently implemented at the site.
  • Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committees, antimicrobial stewardship, and ongoing policy development or updates.
  • Ensure timely medication delivery for patients while managing staffing and pharmaceutical budgets to maintain cost efficiency.
  • Support the pharmacy techs with dispensing, ordering, and repackaging tasks—note that technicians do not perform order entry.
  • Complete a 4-5 day training and orientation before fully assuming the role.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Active North Carolina pharmacist license required.
  • Proven inpatient pharmacy and management experience.
  • Behavioral health pharmacy expertise and Joint Commission experience preferred.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn HCS order entry and Omnicell automation is a plus.
