Director of Pharmacy | Newport News, Virginia

An opportunity is available for a pharmacy professional to lead and oversee comprehensive pharmaceutical services within a hospital setting as Director of Pharmacy. This full-time direct hire position is located in Yorktown, VA, and involves managing pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a high-performance team environment.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all pharmaceutical services including clinical pharmacy across the hospital.
• Provide leadership and support to pharmacy supervisors and staff, ensuring training and development.
• Deliver consistent performance feedback aimed at improving results, skills, and processes.
• Build employee engagement through talent assessment, cross-training, and succession planning.
• Manage daily pharmacy operations, reviewing and improving policies, procedures, and workflows.
• Perform duties of a Staff Pharmacist as needed.
• Ensure compliance with standards from regulatory bodies such as the Joint Commission, Department of Health, and Board of Pharmacy.
• Develop departmental objectives, staffing plans, and budget recommendations.
• Participate in hospital committees and communicate policies to staff.
• Maintain records for authorized prescribers and control pharmaceutical supply requisition and dispensing.

Qualifications:

• Current state pharmacist licensure.
• Minimum of three years hospital pharmacy experience within the last five years.
• Proven ability to operate a pharmacy efficiently in a healthcare organization.
• Preferred: at least one year in a managerial role.
