A contract opportunity is available for an experienced Pharmacist to serve as the Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Services, providing coverage in West Plains, MO. This role requires taking on the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) responsibilities and managing a diverse inpatient pharmacy catering to multiple specialty areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee inpatient pharmacy operations, including pharmacist and technician scheduling.
- Manage the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee: develop agendas, conduct meetings, and implement approved initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Buyer to resolve medication supply chain challenges.
- Attend monthly medical staff committee meetings and COPD readmission reduction sessions.
- Conduct monthly department meetings and daily weekday huddles.
- Order controlled substances twice weekly and manage Pyxis access and payroll.
- Act as a resource for pharmacy staff concerns and questions; no on-call office duty required.
- Oversee sterile compounding as needed, particularly during staff shortages.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Licensed pharmacist with an active Missouri Pharmacist License.
- Certified in Medication Therapy Services.
- Proven inpatient pharmacy experience is essential.
- Familiarity with Meditech Expanse order entry system preferred, especially experience managing drug dictionaries.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities including staff management and committee facilitation.
Schedule and Location:
- Coverage Dates: Approximately July 9 to October 1, with two weeks of onsite training prior to coverage.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Business casual or scrubs acceptable daily dress code.
The facility services a range of specialties including obstetrics (no NICU/high-risk pregnancy), orthopedics, pediatrics (no PICU), oncology, cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, adult behavioral health, endocrinology, podiatry, general surgery, rheumatology, and wound care. The pharmacy team currently includes 4.5 pharmacist FTEs and 6 technician FTEs. This site is undergoing a Joint Commission survey window expected in fall 2026.
