Lead pharmacy operations in an inpatient behavioral health setting as the Director of Pharmacy, overseeing staff and ensuring quality medication management. This contract role requires hands-on leadership within a Joint Commission-accredited facility, with responsibility for maintaining pharmacy standards, managing costs, and supporting clinical programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee pharmacy staffing including dispensing, order verification in the HCS system, and tech workflow supervision
- Assist with Omnicell stocking and pharmacy automation utilization
- Lead P&T committee efforts, antimicrobial stewardship, and timely policy updates
- Ensure timely medication delivery to patients in compliance with regulatory standards
- Manage pharmacy budgets, drug costs, and staffing levels efficiently
- Support and mentor pharmacy technicians; responsibilities include dispensing and repackaging, while order entry is pharmacist-led
- Participate in on-call rotation (typically light workload) and weekend coverage as needed
Qualifications / Desired Experience:
- Valid North Carolina pharmacist license required
- Proven inpatient pharmacy management experience, preferably in behavioral health
- Experience with Joint Commission standards and behavioral health pharmacy preferred
- Familiarity with HCS order entry system and Omnicell automation a plus; training available for these systems
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage staff turnover challenges
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus on-call duties
- Weekend hours: 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as required (if not covered by part-time pharmacist)
Additional Details:
- Training and orientation with outgoing Director of Pharmacy begins February 25th
- Coverage expected through May 29th or until permanent hire
- Pharmacy staff includes two part-time pharmacists and several full- and part-time pharmacy technicians
- This position may require travel or local relocation; travel expense arrangements will be considered if no local candidate is available
