This contract opportunity seeks a Director of Pharmacy to provide leadership at a behavioral health facility specializing in inpatient care. Ideal candidates will have strong management skills and experience working within the Joint Commission framework. The position requires a North Carolina pharmacist license and offers a structured schedule with some on-call responsibilities.
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM plus on-call duties (typically light)
- Weekend coverage as needed, 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM (if not covered by part-time pharmacist)
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead pharmacy staff operations including dispensing, verifying orders in the HCS system, and checking technician work
- Assist with stocking automated dispensing cabinets (Omnicell)
- Participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee activities and antimicrobial stewardship
- Develop and update pharmacy policies as necessary
- Ensure timely medication delivery to patients
- Maintain staffing coverage and manage costs within budget limits
- Support pharmacy technicians in dispensing, ordering, and repackaging tasks (note: technicians do not perform order entry)
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Licensed pharmacist in North Carolina
- Experience managing inpatient pharmacy operations, preferably in behavioral health settings
- Familiarity with Joint Commission standards
- Behavioral health pharmacy expertise highly valued
- Experience with HCS (Health Care Systems) preferred but training provided
- Knowledge of Omnicell automation is a plus, though not required
Additional Information:
- Training with the outgoing Director of Pharmacy from February 25th, with coverage through May 29th or until a permanent hire is made
- Pharmacy staff includes two part-time pharmacists, one full-time technician (30 hours), and three part-time technicians
- Newly installed Omnicell system (January 2024)
- Opportunity involves oversight in a facility with a Joint Commission accreditation window
- Travel expenses may be considered if a local candidate is unavailable
- A 4-5 day orientation is required before official start
