An established specialty pharmacy is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Pharmacy Manager / Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to lead pharmacy operations and ensure high-quality patient care. This role is pivotal in managing medication safety, regulatory compliance, and collaborating with clinical and operational teams in a fast-paced specialty pharmacy environment.
Location: Onsite in Boston, MA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with weekend on-call rotation
Employment Type: Contract to Hire (Initial 13-week contract with potential extension to 26 weeks)
Start Date: Immediate
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee prescription review, verification, and dispensing processes ensuring compliance with regulatory standards including State Board of Pharmacy, FDA, DEA, URAC, ACHC
- Provide patient counseling and manage medication therapy related to specialty disease states
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns, fostering a cohesive and efficient team environment
- Collaborate closely with Intake, Referral, Nursing/Clinical, Reimbursement, and Pharmacy Operations teams to streamline prescription fulfillment and patient onboarding
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and support quality assurance and incident resolution efforts
- Participate in weekend on-call rotation as required
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Active Massachusetts Pharmacist License (mandatory)
- Connecticut Pharmacist License preferred or willingness to obtain promptly
- BS or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in specialty, infusion, hospital, or similar pharmacy settings
- Background in specialty, infusion, or compounding pharmacy; retail-only experience will not be considered
- Strong understanding of specialty therapies, patient qualification, and payer requirements
- Experience supervising pharmacy technicians and working collaboratively with clinical teams
- Familiarity with CareTend software is a plus
- Excellent clinical judgment, leadership skills, and proficiency with pharmacy software and Microsoft Office
