Provide advanced clinical pharmacy services specializing in infectious diseases, optimizing antimicrobial therapy for hospitalized patients. Deliver consultative expertise, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and lead antimicrobial stewardship efforts to ensure effective and safe drug utilization.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer primary care and consultative services in infectious diseases to patients and healthcare providers.
  • Review medication orders to ensure appropriate drug choice, dosing, route, and administration.
  • Assess patients’ drug therapies and perform pharmacokinetic analyses to optimize treatment outcomes.
  • Participate in patient rounds; collaborate with providers to make therapeutic recommendations.
  • Oversee and support pharmacists, technical staff, and interns in the specialty area.
  • Provide education and precept pharmacy students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in clinical research, Medication Use Evaluations (MUE), and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) activities.
  • Assist in development and delivery of educational programs, clinical guidelines, and stewardship protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and contribute to selected committees.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required.
  • Registered Pharmacist and Controlled Substance licensure in Michigan (obtained within 3 months of hire).
  • Preferably completed PGY-2 residency in Infectious Diseases or equivalent experience.
  • Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (BCIDP) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years clinical pharmacy experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiology, pharmacokinetics, and antimicrobial stewardship principles.

Key Skills:

  • Expertise in antimicrobial selection, dosing, and stewardship.
  • Ability to interpret cultures, sensitivities, and microbiology data.
  • Collaboration with infectious disease physicians, microbiology, and infection prevention teams.
  • Skilled in therapeutic drug monitoring including vancomycin and aminoglycosides.
