Pharmacist - Gary, Indiana

A healthcare facility with a licensed capacity of over 625 beds, including nurseries, is seeking 1-2 Pharmacists to provide inpatient pharmacy services on a contract basis. The average daily census is approximately 300 patients combined across various specialty areas such as Med/Surg, Cardiac, Neuro, ICU, and Oncology.

This role requires an active Indiana pharmacist license and some inpatient experience is preferred. The position involves covering approximately 40 hours per week over a three-month period with every other weekend rotations. Coverage hours include a range of shifts, with efforts made to schedule stretches of the same schedule for continuity. Shift times include early mornings through late evenings and overnight hours:

• 0630-1500
• 0700-1530
• 0800-1430
• 1330-2200
• 1430-2300
• 1500-0100

Key responsibilities consist of filling medication orders, verifying technician-prepared products prior to release, maintaining pharmacy and controlled substance security, accurate order entry and verification, and managing patient information. Additionally, pharmacists coordinate with pharmacy technicians who prepare, dispense, restock automated dispensing machines (Omnicell system), and mix IV medications.

Previous experience with the Epic order entry system is preferred but not required as training will be provided. A two-week training and orientation period is mandatory before assignment to ensure familiarity with order verification and centralized pharmacist functions.
