Pharmacist - Hartselle, AL

A veterinary compounding pharmacy is seeking a Staff Pharmacist to fill a temporary-to-hire replacement role with an immediate start. This position offers the opportunity to contribute leadership and expertise within a specialized environment focused on animal patient care, particularly equine and veterinary compounding.

Located in Hartselle, AL, the pharmacist will oversee and support a team of 3–4 pharmacy technicians, ensuring smooth daily operations. Responsibilities include verifying prescriptions, managing 25–30 regularly reordered formularies, maintaining compliance with policies and quality standards, and assisting with inventory and operational oversight. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality care to animal patients and upholding the pharmacy’s standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support pharmacy technicians to maintain efficient workflow
• Verify veterinary prescriptions and review compounded medications
• Manage formularies to ensure accurate stocking and dispensing
• Ensure compliance with pharmacy policies and regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with pharmacy staff to optimize daily operations
• Assist with inventory and other operational tasks as needed

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Active Pharmacist license (state-specific requirements apply)
• Experience in equine pharmacy or veterinary/animal compounding (human compounding alone is insufficient)
• Strong leadership and team supervisory skills
• Excellent work ethic with a proactive, ownership-driven attitude
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to following procedures and delivering exceptional patient care to animals

Pharmacy Environment:

• Veterinary/Equine compounding focus, mostly non-sterile prescriptions with occasional sterile processing
• Approximately 200+ prescriptions shipped daily
• Technology includes PK Software for compounding order entry and QuickBooks Online for invoicing, transitioning to Pharmetica in the near future
• Team of four pharmacists each supervising a small technician team
