Join a specialty pharmacy leadership role focused on opening a brand-new outpatient specialty pharmacy in Houston, TX. This position offers the unique opportunity to lead the build-out, licensing, and operational launch of a pharmacy designed to improve specialty medication access and outcomes for patients. This is a direct hire, onsite role with a Monday–Friday schedule (hours to be determined) starting ASAP.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), ensuring compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards
- Manage daily operations including accurate dispensing, patient safety protocols, and policy enforcement
- Lead onboarding of insurance contracts and collaborate closely with regulatory agencies throughout licensing and inspections
- Oversee inventory management, including controlled substances, temperature-sensitive medications, and recalls
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff to maintain high quality and continuing education standards
- Work collaboratively with specialty care clinics and providers to optimize medication access, prior authorization processes, and formulary management
- Investigate medication incidents and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Utilize pharmacy software and, ideally, electronic medical records to support workflow efficiency and clinical expertise
- Participate in strategic growth planning to expand pharmacy services and value-based care initiatives
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent with an active, unrestricted pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation in Texas
- Proven PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings (inpatient-only experience will not be considered)
- Strong knowledge of specialty medications, benefits investigation, prior authorization, and patient financial assistance
- Exceptional organizational, communication (both written and verbal), and leadership skills, with a collaborative and professional demeanor
- Comfortable working onsite and engaging with patients, providers, and pharmacy teams
- Experience in a start-up environment and familiarity with pharmacy software such as QS1, PioneerRx, or specialty systems considered a plus
This direct hire position offers a competitive salary range of $135,000–$150,000 plus a performance bonus, equity stake, and unlimited PTO.
