Pharmacist in Charge - Houston, TX

Join a visionary specialty pharmacy initiative as the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) for a brand-new outpatient retail specialty pharmacy in Houston, TX. This onsite role offers a unique opportunity to lead the build-out, licensing, and operational launch of a specialty pharmacy dedicated to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the specialty pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge with full accountability for state and federal compliance, including Board of Pharmacy regulations and DEA oversight.
• Lead the pharmacy’s opening and ongoing operations: manage insurance contract onboarding, regulatory and accreditation processes, and workflow development.
• Oversee daily pharmacy functions ensuring accurate dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols.
• Maintain policies for prescription processing, drug storage, security, and controlled substance management.
• Supervise and mentor pharmacists, technicians, and support staff, promoting quality standards and continuous education.
• Collaborate closely with specialty care clinics and providers on formulary optimization, medication access, and patient counseling.
• Manage inventory, including temperature-sensitive medications and recall procedures.
• Drive quality improvement through incident investigation, documentation, and corrective actions.
• Participate in strategic planning to support pharmacy growth and value-based care initiatives.

Qualifications:

• PharmD or equivalent advanced degree with active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation.
• Previous PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience in outpatient or retail specialty pharmacy settings is mandatory; inpatient experience will not be considered.
• Expertise in specialty pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance, and insurance prior authorizations.
• Strong collaborative mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience composing appeals for medication coverage.
• Proficient with pharmacy software systems (QS1, PioneerRx, ComputerRx, etc.); experience with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems is a plus.
• Ability to thrive in a start-up environment, with creativity, initiative, and a solutions-oriented approach.

Schedule:

• Monday through Friday, hours to be determined.

Compensation includes a competitive salary range of $135,000 to $150,000, plus performance bonuses, an equity stake, and unlimited paid time off.
