A specialty pharmacy management group is seeking an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and operations of a new specialty pharmacy located in Lufkin, TX. This is a direct hire opportunity requiring relocation; candidates from Houston, Tyler, or surrounding areas are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities:
- Serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge with full accountability for licensure, controlled substance oversight, and pharmacy compliance with state and federal laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA rules, and accrediting organizations
- Oversee all daily pharmacy operations, including accurate dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols
- Lead build-out and opening of the new specialty pharmacy, including establishing workflows and policies
- Manage insurance contracts, regulatory inspections, and accreditation processes
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff, ensuring quality standards and continuing education compliance
- Collaborate with clinic providers and staff to support coordinated specialty care, formulary management, and medication access
- Investigate medication incidents and drive continuous quality improvement
- Manage inventory, including temperature-sensitive medications and recalls
- Support patient counseling, prior authorization reviews, and therapeutic substitutions
- Participate in strategic planning for growth and service expansion
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Licensed Pharmacist in TX with eligibility to serve as PIC
- Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience is required
- Strong background in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy operations; inpatient experience not considered
- Proficiency with pharmacy software (e.g., QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx) and preferably EMR or specialty pharmacy systems
- Skilled in navigating specialty medication benefits, prior authorizations, and financial assistance programs
- Excellent communication skills, including professional writing for appeals and collaboration with providers
- Comfortable working in a start-up environment and building workflows from scratch
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree
