Pharmacist in Charge in Katy, TX

A specialty pharmacy is seeking an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and operation of a new outpatient specialty pharmacy in Katy, TX. This direct hire position offers a unique opportunity to build pharmacy services from the ground up, working closely with clinic clients and specialty care teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the designated PIC, ensuring compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA, and accreditation standards.
• Manage licensure, controlled substance oversight, policy enforcement, and regulatory inspections.
• Oversee daily operations including accurate dispensing, patient safety, and clinical protocol adherence.
• Lead the onboarding of insurance contracts and work with regulatory bodies to maintain accreditation and regulatory standards.
• Supervise and train pharmacy staff, fostering quality standards and continuous education.
• Collaborate with providers and clinic personnel to optimize specialty medication outcomes and patient access.
• Handle inventory management, including temperature-sensitive drugs and recalls.
• Investigate medication incidents and drive continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Support pharmacy growth, service line expansion, and value-based care initiatives.
• Provide clinical expertise including patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and prior authorization reviews.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

• Licensed PharmD with eligibility to be PIC in Texas.
• Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings; inpatient experience will not be considered.
• Strong knowledge of specialty medications and pharmacy operations in an outpatient environment.
• Experience with pharmacy software (e.g., QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx) and familiarity with EMR and specialty pharmacy systems is a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and professional communication skills to engage providers, patients, and the care team.
• Proven ability to navigate insurance benefits investigations, prior authorizations, and assist with appeals and financial assistance.
• Initiative-taking, highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative mindset.
• Comfortable working in a startup environment and building workflows from inception.
