Retail Pharmacist in Charge - Montgomery, TX

A specialty pharmacy management group seeks an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the opening and operations of a brand-new specialty pharmacy located in Lufkin, TX. This pivotal role requires a highly motivated outpatient/retail pharmacist with proven leadership and pharmacy management expertise to ensure the highest standards of patient care and regulatory compliance from the ground up. The position is direct hire with an immediate start and requires relocation, ideally from Houston, Tyler, or other surrounding markets.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure full compliance with federal and state pharmacy laws and Board of Pharmacy regulations.
• Serve as the designated PIC with accountability for licensure, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory inspections.
• Manage daily pharmacy operations, including prescription accuracy, patient safety, and clinical protocol adherence.
• Lead pharmacy build-out, opening, and onboarding of insurance contracts.
• Maintain and enforce pharmacy policies, documentation, audits, and regulatory readiness.
• Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff, promoting ongoing education and quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with specialty care clinics for formulary management and coordinated patient care.
• Investigate medication incidents and implement continuous quality improvements.
• Oversee inventory management, including temperature-sensitive drug handling and recalls.
• Support prior authorization reviews, patient counseling, therapeutic substitution, and medication access efforts.
• Contribute to strategic growth initiatives and service expansions within the specialty pharmacy.

Qualifications:

• Active, unrestricted Texas pharmacist license eligible for PIC designation.
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced degree.
• Prior experience as Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacy Manager, specifically in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy.
• Strong knowledge of specialty medications and pharmacy workflow.
• Experience with pharmacy software (such as QS1, PioneerRx, ComputerRx) and ideally EMR or specialty pharmacy systems.
• Excellent communication skills, including written proficiency for appeal letters and provider interaction.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to work directly with providers, patients, and staff.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to thrive in a start-up environment, contributing to building workflows and processes.

Location: Lufkin, TX (Relocation required; candidates from Houston, Tyler, or surrounding markets preferred)

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, hours to be determined

• Salary range of $135,000 to $150,000 annually
