A growing healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) to lead operations at a newly established long-term care (LTC) pharmacy site in Roanoke, VA. This direct hire position requires a VA pharmacist license in hand and at least five years of LTC experience, ideally in a leadership role. Candidates should be ready to start immediately and bring strong operational and team leadership skills to a fast-paced startup environment.
This site operates 24/7 with multiple pharmacy and technician staff members, requiring a leader who is visible, hands-on, and able to motivate the team while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and quality standards. The PIC will manage pharmacy procedures according to SOPs and state and federal regulations, overseeing safe medication supply and quality assurance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and implement Quality Assurance programs and policies to ensure safe, compliant pharmacy operations
- Review and verify prescriptions for appropriateness and legality
- Control inventory, storage, and labeling of medications to prevent expiration or deterioration
- Prepare medications accurately and timely to meet individual patient needs
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Motivate and supervise pharmacists and technicians, fostering team communication and productivity
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Licensed Pharmacist with VA license currently active (required)
- Minimum 5+ years of LTC pharmacy experience, preferably with leadership responsibility
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, regulations, and quality assurance practices
- Experience with Frameworks/DocuTrack and Microsoft Office
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lead, motivate, and engage a multidisciplinary team effectively
- Degree in Pharmacy or Pharmacology
Location & Schedule:
- This position is located in Roanoke, VA (applicants from other parts of VA and NC encouraged to apply)
- Startup site with 24/7 pharmacy operations
- Shifts include 7am–3pm and 3pm–11pm; overnight shift hours to be determined
