Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) - Tyler, Texas

A specialty pharmacy is opening in Tyler, TX, and is seeking an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the build-out, licensing, and operational startup of this new outpatient specialty pharmacy. This direct hire position requires a proactive leader who thrives in a startup environment and is passionate about enhancing specialty pharmacy services.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all aspects of pharmacy build-out and opening, including insurance contract onboarding and compliance with the Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and other regulatory/accreditation standards
• Serve as the designated PIC, maintaining licensure accountability, controlled substance oversight, and regulatory inspection readiness
• Lead daily pharmacy operations to ensure accurate dispensing, safety, and adherence to clinical protocols
• Develop and enforce policies on prescription processing, drug storage, security, and inventory management
• Supervise and train pharmacy staff, promote continuing education, and maintain quality standards
• Collaborate closely with specialty care clinics and providers to optimize patient medication access and formulary management
• Manage medication incident investigations with thorough documentation and continuous improvement processes
• Support prior authorization reviews, financial assistance programs, and appeal letter preparation to improve patient access to specialty medications
• Drive strategic planning to facilitate pharmacy growth and enhanced specialty services

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

• PharmD or equivalent advanced degree with an active, unrestricted pharmacist license eligible for PIC status in Texas
• Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience in an outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy setting (inpatient experience not accepted)
• Strong knowledge of specialty medications, pharmacy software (QS1, ComputerRx, PioneerRx, WAM), and ideally EMR or specialty pharmacy systems
• Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build workflows and processes from the ground up
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, service-oriented approach
• Comfortable engaging with patients, providers, and care teams both onsite and via phone

Hours: Monday through Friday, with schedule to be determined.
