This opportunity offers a pivotal leadership role as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for a brand-new specialty pharmacy opening in Lakewood Ranch, FL. The PIC will be instrumental in managing the pharmacy’s build-out, regulatory compliance, insurance contracting, and day-to-day operations, ensuring high-quality specialty pharmacy care in collaboration with clinic partners. This is a direct hire position with Monday through Friday hours (exact times TBD).
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the designated PIC, maintaining compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, and Board of Pharmacy requirements
- Oversee pharmacy build-out, licensure, and accreditation processes
- Manage insurance contracts and specialty medication access
- Direct daily operations including prescription dispensing accuracy, patient safety, and clinical protocol adherence
- Supervise and train pharmacy staff to maintain quality and compliance standards
- Lead audits, maintain thorough documentation, and coordinate regulatory inspections
- Collaborate with providers and clinic teams for optimal patient care and medication management
- Handle inventory control, procurement, and temperature-sensitive drug handling
- Participate in strategic planning to grow and innovate pharmacy services
- Act as clinical expert supporting patient counseling, therapeutic substitutions, and prior authorization reviews
Qualifications:
- Licensed PharmD with an active, unrestricted Florida pharmacist license eligible for PIC status
- Prior PIC or pharmacy manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy required; inpatient background not considered
- Demonstrated expertise with specialty medications and pharmacy software (e.g., QS1, PioneerRx); EMR or specialty pharmacy system experience a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with providers and effectively manage specialty pharmacy workflows
