This leadership role calls for an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to oversee the launch and management of a new specialty pharmacy in Whitehouse, TX. The PIC will guide the full build-out of pharmacy operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, facilitating insurance contracts, and leading a high-functioning team dedicated to exceptional patient care in specialty medication management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as PIC with full accountability for licensure, controlled substance management, and regulatory inspections under state and federal pharmacy laws
- Manage daily pharmacy operations including accurate dispensing, patient safety protocols, and clinical policy enforcement
- Lead the onboarding of insurance contracts and coordination with the Board of Pharmacy, accreditation agencies, and DEA
- Supervise, mentor, and train pharmacists, technicians, and support staff to uphold quality and compliance standards
- Collaborate directly with specialty care clinics to optimize medication access, formulary management, and patient outcomes
- Conduct audits, maintain detailed records, and coordinate regulatory responses to ensure continuous compliance
- Oversee inventory control, especially temperature-sensitive drugs and recall procedures
- Support prior authorization processes, including appeals and financial assistance to improve access to specialty medications
- Participate in strategic planning for pharmacy growth and value-based care initiatives
Qualifications & Experience:
- Active, unrestricted PharmD license eligible for PIC designation in Texas; license in good standing
- Prior PIC or Pharmacy Manager experience in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings (inpatient experience not considered)
- Strong knowledge of specialty pharmacy operations, medication management, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with pharmacy software systems (e.g., QS1, PioneerRx) and bonus for EMR or specialty pharmacy software familiarity
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience supporting providers through appeals and patient counseling
- Ability to work collaboratively with providers and clinic staff, demonstrating a professional, friendly approach
- Proven organizational skills, initiative, creative problem-solving, and commitment to patient-centered care
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, hours TBD; onsite role
