Two direct hire opportunities are available for oncology/hematology inpatient pharmacists to join a respected healthcare institution dedicated to advancing cancer care. These positions focus on providing expert pharmaceutical care to patients in malignant hematology, medical oncology, gynecologic oncology, and stem cell transplant (SCT) units. Candidates with a strong foundation in oncology pharmacy, particularly those with postgraduate training, are encouraged to apply.

Location: Joliet, IL
Schedule: Typical inpatient schedule with days/evenings and rotating weekends
EMR: EPIC

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds to design, implement, and monitor medication regimens for oncology and hematology patients.
  • Review and verify chemotherapy and other drug therapies to ensure safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reconcile home medications upon patient admission.
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare teams to clarify medication orders and document changes.
  • Provide patient and family counseling on medication adherence and potential side effects.
  • Offer pharmacokinetic consults, including dose adjustments for vancomycin and aminoglycosides.
  • Detect and report adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
  • Support nursing staff with medication order inquiries and assist with chemotherapy desensitizations in the MICU.
  • Participate in order verification and occasional evening staffing as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
  • Illinois Pharmacist License or eligibility to obtain an IL license (candidates willing to apply for licensure are welcome).
  • Postgraduate ASHP-accredited PGY2 Hematology/Oncology residency highly preferred, but candidates with solid oncology experience will be considered.
  • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) prior to or within 18 months of hire.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Strong knowledge of intravenous admixture, chemotherapy protocols, and cellular therapies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently both independently and in a team environment.
