A research hospital in New York, NY is seeking a pharmacist to support a full-time maternity leave coverage assignment lasting approximately six weeks. This contract role will focus heavily on the preparation of investigational and standard of care medications in a sterile cleanroom setting, including intravenous (IV) compounding.
Position Responsibilities:
- Safely prepare and dispense medications, ensuring accurate compounding, packaging, and labeling according to physician orders and protocol requirements
- Monitor and advise on drug therapies and incompatibilities, providing clinical pharmacology information to healthcare teams and researchers
- Oversee pharmacy operations including workflow management of technicians, verification of preparations, order entries, and inventory control
- Maintain sterile product preparation areas and aseptic procedures adhering to regulatory agency standards such as NYSBP, TJC, NYDOH, DEA, FDA, and NIH
- Manage controlled substances records and inventories, complying with all legal regulations
- Participate in clinical research meetings to enhance pharmacological knowledge among hospital staff
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment in compliance with established procedures
Qualifications:
- Active NYS Pharmacist license in good standing
- Minimum 2 years hospital pharmacy experience, with direct sterile and IV compounding expertise in a cleanroom environment
- Proficient using hospital electronic health records (EHR), e.g., Cerner or EPIC, including drug order entry systems
- Familiarity with automated drug dispensing machines and controlled drug dispensing
- Ability to interpret and dispense according to clinical trial protocols independently
- Preferred: certification in sterile and non-sterile product preparation (BCSCP) and prior research pharmacy experience
Schedule Options:
- Full-time: 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Part-time: 8:30am to 1:00pm
