A managed care clinical pharmacist opportunity is available offering a fully remote schedule Monday through Friday, with rare weekend commitment a few times per year. This contract role requires a licensed pharmacist in Oregon, Washington, or California, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a managed care environment. Expertise handling prior authorizations, audits, appeals, and ALJ court hearings is essential.
This position focuses on delivering high-quality, cost-effective clinical pharmacy services. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist collaborates closely with medical directors, nurse case managers, physicians, and other providers to support coordinated care for health plan members. Key areas of responsibility include medication therapy management, population disease management, specialty pharmaceutical coordination, utilization review, and clinical policy development and implementation, including participation in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care through Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs.
- Review pharmacy and medical claims to identify medication-related issues and develop action plans.
- Communicate therapeutic recommendations effectively and diplomatically to physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Consult and educate members, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal medication use.
- Participate in clinical policy development and apply drug medical policies focused on safe, quality, and cost-effective pharmaceutical use.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Maintain ongoing professional development and clinical expertise.
Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Active pharmacist license in OR, WA, or CA.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a managed care pharmacy setting.
- Proven expertise with prior authorizations, audits, appeals, and administrative law judge (ALJ) hearings.
- Strong communication, clinical, and consultative skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
