An inpatient pharmacy technician position is available in Houston, TX, supporting a leading pediatric hospital’s West Campus. This contract role runs for 13 weeks starting March 9 with a 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM shift that includes rotating weekends.
This role supports pharmacists in the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications for patients ranging from newborns to adults. Key duties include assisting with controlled substance management, verifying medication doses by accurately entering patient data, maintaining aseptic technique and infection control standards, ensuring dispensing accuracy, batch and order entry, and stock management in collaboration with Pharmacy Support Services. Strict adherence to safety protocols and documentation is essential.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active Texas pharmacy technician license
- National certification as a pharmacy technician (PTCB or equivalent)
- ACPE IV sterile compounding certification
- Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient pharmacy experience
- Proven ability to perform aseptic compounding and infection control practices
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in medication preparation and dispensing with developmental appropriateness
- Manage controlled substances including procurement, record keeping, and distribution
- Accurately enter patient information to confirm dosing appropriateness
- Maintain sterile compounding proficiency with annual recertification
- Collaborate to maintain medication and supply stock levels
- Follow hospital procedures for medication labeling and expiration dating
