Support pharmaceutical services in a hospital pharmacy setting, assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory management. This role requires adherence to safety protocols and sterile compounding standards while providing essential support across multiple shifts, including days, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing physician orders by labeling and filling medications, including unit-dose oral medications, reconstituted medications, topical applications, and IV solutions.
  • Prepare sterile intravenous, epidural, and intrathecal solutions following established sterile compounding procedures and current regulations.
  • Refer completed drug orders to pharmacists for final verification before dispensing.
  • Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe pharmacy environment, including removing outdated medications and restocking shelves and automated dispensing machines.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and direct calls per departmental guidelines.
  • Pre-pack medications into unit-dose forms as requested.
  • Maintain crash carts and emergency medication supplies.
  • Deliver medications to hospital floors or authorized personnel.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety policies, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Complete competency assessments as required and maintain confidentiality of patient and facility information.
  • Perform additional duties such as temperature logs, narcotic pulls, inventory management, and assisting nursing staff with medication systems as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid registration as a pharmacy technician issued by the Board of Pharmacy, State of Hawaii.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a pharmacy setting assisting pharmacists in medication preparation and dispensing.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile compounding techniques and pharmacy safety protocols.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
