A pharmacy technician position is available in a hospital pharmacy unit. This contract role, lasting 13 weeks, offers an opportunity to support pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services in adherence to established procedures. The role requires flexibility to work day shifts as well as weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist pharmacists by preparing physician orders, including unit dosed oral medications, reconstituted medications, topicals, and IV solutions.
  • Prepare sterile intravenous, epidural, or intrathecal solutions following proper sterile compounding procedures and regulations.
  • Refer all completed drug orders to pharmacists for final verification before dispensing.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety within the pharmacy, adhering to infection control policies and using proper PPE when handling hazardous materials.
  • Manage medication stock by pre-packing unit doses, removing outdated items, and restocking shelves and automated dispensing machines.
  • Maintain crash cart trays and emergency medication supplies.
  • Deliver medications to hospital floors or authorized personnel.
  • Handle telephone inquiries and triage appropriately following departmental guidelines.
  • Assist nursing staff with Pyxis troubleshooting and maintain documentation such as refrigerator temperature logs and narcotic pulls.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid registration as a Pharmacy Technician issued by the Board of Pharmacy, State of Hawaii.
  • Minimum of two years of pharmacy technician experience in hospitals, community pharmacies, or other medical institutions.
  • Knowledge of sterile compounding techniques and pharmaceutical safety standards.
