A specialty pharmacy is seeking two experienced Specialty Pharmacists to join their team focusing on rare and orphan drugs for patients with rare diseases. This role requires a deep understanding of specialty pharmacy operations, specifically working in designated specialty retail or specialty mail order settings, as pure retail pharmacy experience is not applicable.

This position offers an opportunity to work closely with patients and providers, managing complex drug approval processes, assisting with payment plans, grants, rebates, and other financial assistance programs. Strong clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills are essential due to the high-touch nature of patient and provider interactions.

Location: Phoenix, AZ
Job Type: Contract (13 weeks) with possible direct hire
Schedule: Monday through Friday, day shift
System Used: McKesson Enterprise (ERx) for Specialty Pharmacy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dispense and manage rare/orphan specialty medications accurately and efficiently
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and patients to facilitate drug approval and access
  • Assist with financial assistance programs to ensure patients can afford necessary treatments
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding their medication therapy and support requirements

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Active, clear, and good standing pharmacist license in Arizona
  • Proven experience working in a designated specialty pharmacy environment (retail specialty or specialty mail order)
  • Experience with rare and orphan drug therapies and associated disease states
  • Strong clinical and communication skills to manage high-touch patient and provider relationships
  • Familiarity with McKesson Enterprise (ERx) system is preferred
