An established specialty retail pharmacy is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role offers the chance to support a complex patient population managing multiple medications daily, requiring both technical expertise and exceptional communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with prescription preparation and dispensing for patients managing chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Provide compassionate support and clear communication to a diverse patient base, including Medicare/Medicaid and low-income individuals with varying literacy levels.
  • Utilize pharmacy software, preferably Pioneer Rx, to manage prescriptions and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy registration requirements.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Prior experience in retail pharmacy, with specialty pharmacy experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and patiently with patients facing advanced chronic conditions.
  • Familiarity with the top 200-400 medications commonly dispensed in retail settings.
  • Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB) is highly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Current registration with the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy is required.
  • Experience working with Medicaid/Medicare patient populations is a plus.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • No weekends or holidays required.

This role starts immediately, with a 13-week initial contract and the potential to transition to a permanent position for the right candidate. Strong emphasis will be placed on patient communication skills and relevant experience managing specialty medications and chronic diseases.
