An established specialty retail pharmacy requires a skilled Pharmacy Technician to support complex patient care through a Contract to Hire opportunity in Pittsburgh, PA. This role demands a proactive and compassionate individual experienced in retail pharmacy settings, preferably with specialty pharmacy exposure, to manage a challenging patient population effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications for patients with chronic and complex health conditions.
  • Communicate clearly and patiently with patients managing multiple medications daily.
  • Utilize pharmacy software (preferably Pioneer Rx) to accurately process prescriptions.
  • Support a patient base primarily consisting of Medicare/Medicaid and low-income individuals, requiring empathy and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain compliance with state regulations and pharmacy policies.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a retail pharmacy technician, with specialty pharmacy background highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong patient communication skills, especially working with patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Registration with the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy required; national certification (e.g., PTCB) highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the top 200-400 drugs found in retail pharmacy.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with an unpaid lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.

Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This is an immediate need for a candidate who can start promptly to ensure continuity of care at this specialty retail pharmacy. The initial placement will last approximately 13 weeks with the possibility of extending into a permanent role based on performance and fit.
