An experienced Retail Pharmacy Technician is sought for a contract-to-hire opportunity in a specialty retail pharmacy serving complex patients. This role demands strong communication skills, compassion, and familiarity with managing patients on multiple medications daily.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Type: Contract to Hire
Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (Lunch 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM)
Duration: 13 weeks with possibility of direct hire

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process and dispense prescriptions for patients with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Provide patient counseling with patience and compassion, especially for Medicare/Medicaid and low literacy populations.
  • Support pharmacists in handling specialty medications and complex drug regimens (8-15 medications per patient).
  • Utilize pharmacy management software (preferably Pioneer Rx; training available if needed).
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Qualifications / Desired Experience:

  • Proven experience as a retail or specialty pharmacy technician.
  • Explicit experience communicating with and assisting patients managing chronic diseases.
  • Strong knowledge of top 200-400 retail medications.
  • PA Board of Pharmacy registration required; national certification (PTCB) highly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work professionally with diverse, low-income patient populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
