Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive, review, and enter prescription orders into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Prepare, count, measure, package, and label medications for pharmacist verification before dispensing.
  • Assist in preparing unit-dose packs or blister cards for long-term care patients.
  • Maintain and monitor medication and supply inventory: order, receive, restock, rotate stock, and check expiration dates.
  • Manage controlled substances and ensure secure storage compliance.
  • Provide customer service at the pharmacy counter or via phone, answering questions and directing clinical/medical inquiries to the pharmacist.
  • Communicate with nursing staff or caregivers in long-term care facilities regarding medication orders, clarifications, and schedules.
  • Process insurance claims, verify eligibility, and handle billing issues.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date patient medication profiles and records.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, proper labeling standards, and patient privacy laws.
  • Follow safety procedures for handling and storing medications.
  • Perform point-of-sale tasks: ringing up prescriptions and OTC sales.
  • Assist customers with over-the-counter questions and basic health product guidance.
  • Handle prescription pick-ups, denials, refill requests, and insurance coordination.
  • Prepare and package medications in trays or blister packs for residents in nursing homes and LTC facilities.
  • Maintain Medication Administration Records (MARs) and ensure proper documentation for caregiver use.
  • Coordinate special medication orders and consistent delivery scheduling for facilities.
  • Work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist; all dispensed medications and clinical decisions are ultimately reviewed by the pharmacist.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses, and facility staff to support safe medication use.

Required Qualifications:
  • Retail/Long Term Care experience (Ideal).
  • Valid and active Minnesota State Pharmacy Technician License.
