An opportunity is available for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join a specialty retail pharmacy team focused on supporting patients with complex medication needs. This contract-to-hire position requires strong expertise in retail pharmacy practice, with an emphasis on patient communication and managing therapies for advanced chronic illnesses.
Location: Washington, PA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (lunch break 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM)
Duration: 13 weeks with potential for permanent placement
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications for a patient population primarily covered by Medicare/Medicaid with multiple chronic conditions
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered support to individuals with limited health literacy, ensuring clear understanding of medication regimens
- Operate pharmacy systems such as Pioneer Rx—prior experience preferred but training available
- Manage specialty medication processes and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
- Communicate effectively with patients who take extensive daily medications (8-15 prescriptions), addressing questions and concerns patiently and thoroughly
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Proven retail or specialty pharmacy technician experience, particularly supporting patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to educate and comfort vulnerable patient populations
- Registered with the PA Board of Pharmacy; national certification (PTCB) strongly preferred but not mandatory
- Experience documented in working with a Medicare/Medicaid patient base and administering complex medication regimens
- Ability to provide references that attest to patient communication skills and specialty medication handling
