Provide expert pharmaceutical care within a hospital setting to ensure safe, effective, and cost-conscious drug therapy for diverse patient populations. This 13-week contract role, starting in late July, offers an opportunity to contribute to patient health through medication preparation, distribution, counseling, and collaboration with medical and nursing staff.

Location:

  • Sitka, AK

Schedule:

  • Standard hospital hours (specific schedule details to be discussed upon hiring)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dispense medications per federal and state laws.
  • Counsel patients on medication use and possible side effects.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to optimize drug therapy.
  • Maintain appropriate drug inventory.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities within the pharmacy department.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and follow established Standards for Service Excellence.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Pharm.D. degree required; candidates with a Bachelor of Pharmacy (pre-2003) plus three years hospital/ambulatory pharmacy experience may be considered.
  • Active, unrestricted Alaska pharmacist license is mandatory.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience is required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program is preferred.
  • Must have current flu vaccination.
  • Ability to interpret patient medical histories, lab results, and medication orders.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competent computer skills and proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Able to work effectively independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Capable of managing frequent interruptions and workload changes.
  • Must complete fingerprinting and background check six weeks prior to start date.
