Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and dispense prescribed medications accurately while overseeing pharmacy personnel and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Advise physicians and healthcare staff on drug therapies, potential side effects, dosage regimens, and therapeutic outcomes.
- Conduct medication use reviews, monitor patient responses, and recommend adjustments to optimize treatment effectiveness.
- Maintain secure storage of pharmaceuticals and monitor inventory per state and federal guidelines.
- Educate patients on proper medication usage and participate in patient care rounds as required.
- Develop and update drug use guidelines, therapeutic bulletins, and departmental policies.
- Participate in facility meetings and serve on committees, providing consultative support to contracted long-term care facilities.
- Mentor pharmacy and healthcare students through practical and didactic training experiences.
- Uphold confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited institution; PharmD preferred.
- Valid pharmacy license obtained by passing the licensure exam according to NABP standards.
- Minimum of three years retail pharmacy experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Current state license to practice pharmacy required.
Work Environment:
- Indoor, smoke-free, climate-controlled workspace with occasional exposure to bio-hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Interaction with patients, medical staff, and other healthcare professionals routinely expected.
- Adherence to safety protocols including annual respirator fitting for handling hazardous drugs.
