A travel contract opportunity is available for a licensed pharmacist to provide retail pharmaceutical services at a hospital pharmacy located in a rural Northern California community. This role reports to the Retail Pharmacy Manager and requires ensuring pharmacy operations comply with state and federal regulations, while delivering safe and effective medication dispensing and counseling to patients.

Shifts: 8-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday

Key Responsibilities
- Compound, dispense, and verify prescribed medications and pharmaceuticals for patient care
- Review prescriptions for accuracy and determine necessary formulas and ingredients
- Supervise and direct pharmacy technicians in mixing, packaging, and labeling tasks
- Counsel patients on medication use, potential side effects, interactions, and proper storage
- Maintain quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and proper disposal of hazardous waste
- Manage patient data entry, pharmacy inventory, and billing systems, including third-party insurance claims and rejections
- Report prescription errors promptly and follow medication incident protocols
- Develop collaborative relationships with physicians and healthcare professionals
- Keep pharmacy policies current and ensure regulatory compliance
- Maximize retail pharmacy sales while controlling expenses
- Train pharmacy interns and technicians on best practices and regulatory guidelines
Required Qualifications
- Active California Pharmacist License in good standing
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse healthcare staff
Preferred Qualifications
- PharmD degree preferred
- Previous retail pharmacy experience
- Experience in rural or critical access hospital pharmacy settings
