A per diem staff pharmacist position is available to support a specialty retail pharmacy focused on managing complex medication therapies for patients. This role involves providing expert consultation and personalized care to patients managing multiple chronic conditions, often taking 8-15 medications daily. Strong disease state management and communication skills are essential to effectively serve a diverse, low-income Medicare/Medicaid patient population with varying literacy levels.

Location: Lorain, OH (with specific shifts primarily in Columbus, OH)

Schedule/Hours:

  • Tuesday, 2/3 — 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Thursday, 2/5 — 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Tuesday, 2/10 — 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Thursday, 2/12 — 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Friday, 2/13 — 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Dispense medications and provide thorough patient consultations on complex pharmaceutical regimens.
  • Manage and counsel patients with advanced chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Utilize Pioneer Rx software for accurate prescription processing.
  • Engage with patients compassionately, considering literacy barriers to ensure understanding of medication instructions.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize medication therapy outcomes focused on quality patient care over volume.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Strong background in retail and/or specialty pharmacy settings.
  • Proficient knowledge of the top 200-400 drugs commonly used in retail pharmacy.
  • Demonstrated experience in patient consultation and disease state management.
  • Patience and exceptional communication skills to support complex, low-literacy patient populations.
  • Previous specialty pharmacy experience is highly preferred.
