This per diem pharmacist opportunity is based in Metairie, LA, supporting an inpatient hospital specializing in reconstructive, plastic, and orthopedic surgeries. The position requires proven experience with inpatient pharmacy practice and intravenous (IV) medication preparation.

The role offers weekday shifts, Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with on-call duties Monday through Thursday evenings (2:30 PM to 6:00 AM). No weekend coverage is required. Prior training with the Director will be provided before coverage begins on June 22nd. The pharmacist will utilize the Thrive order entry system and Pyxis for automated medication dispensing; experience with these systems is preferred but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately enter medication orders into Thrive system and verify for clinical appropriateness
  • Prepare and dispense intravenous medications and sterile compounds for immediate use
  • Maintain and replenish Pyxis medication cabinets efficiently
  • Provide on-call pharmacy support during evenings Monday through Thursday
  • Adhere to hospital protocols including dress code (black scrubs)
  • Work independently without pharmacy technician support

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Active Louisiana Pharmacist license is mandatory
  • Experience in inpatient pharmacy environments
  • Competency in IV medication preparation and sterile compounding
  • Familiarity with Thrive and Pyxis systems preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospital setting
