An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled inpatient pharmacist to support patient care in a dynamic hospital setting. This 13-week contract position begins shortly after Labor Day and offers the chance to work rotating shifts, providing critical pharmacy services in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Portsmouth, VA

Schedule/Hours:

  • Day shifts: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
  • Evening shifts: 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Overnight shifts: 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM, 8:30 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Rotating shift schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Verify and enter medication orders in EPIC EMR with precision and accuracy
  • Manage inpatient pharmacy operations including IV preparations, pain control analgesia, and antibiotic management
  • Monitor drug interactions, dosage adjustments including renal and pharmacokinetic dosing
  • Support anticoagulant and chemotherapy medication protocols when applicable
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimize medication therapy for hospitalized patients

Qualifications and Experience:

  • VA pharmacist license required at the time of application (firm requirement)
  • Minimum of 1 year inpatient pharmacy experience is mandatory
  • Proficient in EPIC EMR charting and pharmacy systems
  • Strong knowledge of IV medications, pain management, antibiotics, and drug interactions
  • Experience with chemotherapy and anticoagulants preferred
  • Travel experience is an advantage
