Staff Pharmacist - Sitka, Alaska

This role supports the pharmacy department’s mission to provide safe, effective, and cost-efficient drug therapy for patients of all ages. Responsibilities include preparing and distributing medications in compliance with federal and state laws, counseling patients, advising medical and nursing staff on drug therapies, maintaining appropriate drug inventories, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives. The position requires professional conduct, confidentiality, and adherence to established standards of service excellence.

Schedule:

• Contract duration: 13 weeks
• Start date: Late July (subject to fingerprint processing timelines)

Qualifications and Experience:

• Pharm.D. degree with current unrestricted Alaska pharmacist license
• Candidates with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (pre-2003) considered with 3 years hospital or ambulatory clinic pharmacy experience
• Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
• Completion of an ASHP-recognized pharmacy residency preferred
• Hospital pharmacy experience is required
• Must have current Alaska license prior to start
• Must have received flu vaccination before start date
• Ability to schedule fingerprinting promptly after acceptance to avoid delays

Skills and Abilities:

• Proficient in reviewing patient medical histories, lab results, and medication orders
• Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences and legal regulations
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Competent in computer applications related to pharmacy practice
• Accurate in calculating drug dosages and compounding formulations
• Able to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams and work independently
• Able to manage interruptions, adapt to changing workloads, and make critical decisions quickly
