Essential Qualifications & Background:
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license
- Current BLS certification (NRP certification preferred)
- Demonstrated proficiency in pediatric and neonatal respiratory care
- Previous experience with a broad range of therapies and devices (see below)
- Strong critical thinking and patient education abilities
Professional Responsibilities:
- Deliver excellence in pediatric respiratory care, including medicated aerosol therapies (small volume nebulizers, DPIs, MDIs, Pentamidine administration)
- Administer airway clearance treatments: clapping, vibration, PEP devices, hyperinflation therapies, high-frequency chest wall oscillation, cough assistance, and more
- Manage and monitor advanced airway procedures: suctioning, tracheostomy care, manual and mechanical ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP/NIMV), and initiate/oversee NAVA
- Participate in high-risk deliveries: surfactant administration, intubation, T-piece ventilation, NRP protocol
- Perform and interpret blood gas sampling and analysis
- Oversee comprehensive respiratory monitoring: pulse oximetry, capnography, ventilator graphics, breathing trials, and continuous monitoring studies
- Guide and execute clinical practice guidelines for asthma, CF, RDS, BPD, and more
- Support intra-hospital transport, including MRI and neonatal rapid response, and manage specialized gas therapies (Nitric Oxide, Heliox, sub-ambient oxygen)
- Ensure infection control through diligent cleaning and equipment management
