Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Experience in acute and/or rehabilitation settings strongly preferred
- ACLS and BLS certification required
- Proficiency in operating both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment
- Skilled in chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal), and airway management
- Ability to perform EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and pulmonary function testing
- Competence with arterial puncture, tracheostomy care, and endotracheal tube management
- Strong communication and patient education skills
Essential Responsibilities:
- Evaluate patients and recommend respiratory treatment plans
- Administer physician-prescribed treatments using oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices
- Educate patients and families on treatments and discharge instructions
- Monitor patients with oximetry and capnography; review chest x-rays as needed
- Support physicians during bronchoscopy, tracheostomy, and chest tube procedures
- Provide chest drainage and tracheostomy care following facility protocol
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS/ACLS guidelines
- Complete laboratory specimen handling and documentation in accordance with policy
- Maintain accurate, timely records of respiratory interventions and patient responses
- Communicate therapy efficacy to attending and pulmonary physicians, ensuring detailed shift reports
- Assist with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventative repairs
